Recently I have been fielding a lot of questions from customers and readers about mattress maintenance. Since I don't make our mattresses, I thought it would be a good idea to ask Joey, our production manager, the best way to treat them.
He told me, chest puffing with pride, to treat them like "works of art." So, after doing some research, here's a short list of ways to keep your mattress in perfect condition.
- Get your mattress appraised. This is a very important first step as it will give you a value to insure it for. Most places charge for this service, but PBS's Antiques Road Show appraises things for free and luckily our mattresses fold, so it wouldn't be too hard getting one there.
- Now you need to decide whether or not you plan on displaying it privately, at a gallery or in a museum. Many of our customers go with private displays, as sleeping in public can be difficult.
- Lastly, you will need to choose a frame. There are thousands of choices ranging from baroque to modern. Getting a mattress framed will probably be a little pricey, but it will be worth it for proper display and protection.
I hope this helps!
