Our Zero Waste Goal: Keeping Plastic Out of the Loop

For over 40 years, we’ve been working on becoming fully zero-waste in every step in our business. Spend any time reading about Soaring Heart or our products, and you'll encounter our commitment to a zero-waste lifestyle sustainability. Our mission is to eliminate waste and keep it out of landfills, supporting a waste-free future.

Embracing the Zero-Waste Goal

Our zero-waste goal is straightforward: we follow a sustainable business model that eliminates waste by repurposing every scrap of material used in our manufacturing and distribution processes. From packaging materials to fabric remnants, we ensure that every piece finds its next use, preventing landfill waste. This principle guides all our actions, from choosing suppliers to our shipping methods.

Creative Reuse Strategies

We design our templates to maximize raw material efficiency, minimizing scrap. To give our scrap materials a chance for another life, we repurpose scrap materials into smaller items, ensuring nothing goes to waste. What can’t be used is either recycled or composted. That’s the advantage of using only organic, biodegradable materials!

Plastic-Free Packaging

As a large part of our efforts to avoid unnecessary waste, we don't use plastic wrap or synthetic packing materials. Our products are shipped in sturdy cardboard boxes with paper tape. Many customers love this for the added benefit that it ensures no sensitive reactions to their bedding being shipped in plastic.

For added protection, we offer biodegradable plant-based bags for your items upon request. This option is also great for customers with chemical sensitivities, providing extra insulation during transit. When you visit our showrooms, you can take your purchases home in reusable paper shopping bags.

Managing Incoming Plastic

Because we manufacture our own bedding, avoiding plastic in the supply chain completely is challenging – but we see it as an opportunity to innovate. Our Organic Wool arrives in heavy-duty plastic bags, which we return to the mill for reuse, or recycle once they expire. We also reuse some bags for added protection during shipment of our mattresses. We are constantly collaborating with our suppliers to develop reusable packaging alternatives, aiming to eliminate plastic wrap.

For shipping wool & latex toppers, mattresses, and shikibutons, we upcycle plastic from our latex supply chain. This plastic is fully recyclable, ensuring an eco-friendly approach. Any thinner film plastics we receive are recycled at a local waste reduction facility, as many cities no longer accept these items in curbside recycling bins.

Future Endeavors

We continuously seek new ways to reduce plastic and disposable materials entering our facility. By fostering conscious partnerships with our suppliers and employing innovative design, we uphold our commitment to achieving 100% zero waste.

Join us in our zero-waste initiative and help us keep plastic out of the loop. Together, we can create a sustainable future for generations to come.
